Dr. Jamie Bhamra is an ophthalmologist with advanced training in cataract and corneal surgery, including refractive surgery, corneal cross-linking, external disease, ocular surface disease, and dry eye disease. He practices comprehensive ophthalmology in Calgary, Alberta.
Originally from Fernie, British Columbia, Calgary was an easy choice to pursue his post-secondary training. He completed his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Calgary. Post-graduate training in ophthalmology was completed in Canada and the United States. Ophthalmology residency training was at the prestigious University of Ottawa Eye Institute. Dr. Bhamra was fortunate to obtain his fellowship at the world-renowned Proctor Foundation and University of California, San Francisco. His subspecialty training includes cornea, external disease, refractive surgery, and uveitis.
Dr. Bhamra’s meticulous, comprehensive, and compassionate chairside manner, in medical and surgical care, is enjoyed by all of his patients. He offers the newest intraocular lens technology, including toric, accommodative, and multifocal IOL options. His skilled, professional and warm approach is evident in the excellent results and care his patients enjoy. He has performed thousands of cataract surgeries (nationally and internationally), and Dr. Bhamra has graciously become one of the busiest cataract surgeons in Alberta and Canada.
For patients with keratoconus, pellucid marginal degeneration, and post-refractive ectasia, Dr. Bhamra performs the latest in corneal cross-linking technology. He is also well versed and experienced in the newest transplant technologies including penetrating keratoplasty (PK), anterior lamellar keratoplasty (ALK), deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK), Descemet stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty (DSAEK), ultra-thin Descemet stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty (UT-DSAEK), Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK), and cornea keratoprosthesis, as well as, a variety of combination procedures.
Dr. Bhamra is also experienced in many other ocular surface procedures. These include pterygium surgery (with autografting), corneal/conjunctival lesion removal, amniotic membrane grafting, and various manual and automated keratotomies.
He regularly presents research at local, national, and international ophthalmology meetings to help fellow ophthalmologists understand, integrate, and offer technologies to qualifying patients in their practices. He has conducted award-winning research in corneal cross-linking and corneal endothelialitis, as well as offered his opinions in refractive surgery, cataract surgery, premium IOLs, femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery, and corneal ectasia. He has been invited to author articles on cataract surgery, corneal disease, and dry eye disease in several peer-reviewed journals.
He actively participates in ophthalmology residents training through his affiliations with the University of Calgary Ophthalmology Residency Training Program. Dr. Bhamra is involved in teaching seminars for ophthalmologists, optometrists, ophthalmic assistants, family physicians, emergency physicians, pharmacists, and residents. He has been honoured with the “Master Teacher” Award from the University of Calgary Ophthalmology program for his excellence in teaching. Dr. Bhamra has received recognition as an excellent and skilled lecturer by other departments at the University of Calgary. He was also selected as an Emerging Leader in Canadian Ophthalmology.
International ophthalmology is intriguing and exciting to Dr. Bhamra. He has participated in eye camps and eye hospitals internationally. From Srikiran Eye Hospital, Kakinada, India, to helping with medical and surgical eye camps in Vietnam, he hopes to continue learning, teaching and offering care with outreach programs. With a Better World Canada, he and his wife helped set-up and carry out multiple medical eye camps in rural parts of Kenya. All amazing experiences.

Dr. Bhamra enjoys fitness training, yoga, meditation, hockey, and golf. He and his family enjoy travelling the world and taking as many photos as possible! He is happy and excited to be a part of the great, caring team at Vector Eye Centre and looks forward to offering everyone the same excellent care.
Dr. Micah Luong, Ophthalmologist
Dr. Micah Luong is the only eye specialist in Alberta with dual training in both optometry and ophthalmology.
Originally from Edmonton, he attended the University of Alberta for his undergraduate degree. He then received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Waterloo and Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Calgary. Afterwards, he completed five-years of post-graduate training in ophthalmology at the University of Calgary. Dr. Luong then pursued additional training in Toronto with Dr. Markowitz, a glaucoma and vision rehabilitation specialist.
Dr. Luong’s dedication to medical advances resulted in numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals. He has presented his research at national and international conferences. He is also devoted to international ophthalmology. This includes participating in eye camps and hospitals in Guangzhou, China, and Vietnam. He hopes to continue offering vision services to those less fortunate, both abroad and locally. Dr. Luong speaks English and Chinese.
He is affiliated with many ophthalmology associations, including the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, Canadian Medical Association, Eye Physician and Surgeons of Alberta, American Academy of Ophthalmology, Alberta College of Physicians and Surgeons, Canadian Ophthalmology Society, and Alberta Medical Association.
During his free time, Dr. Luong enjoys travelling as well as watching and playing practically all sports. He also loves spending quality time with his family, which includes four young children.

Dr. Brett Poulis, Ophthalmologist
Dr. Brett Poulis was raised in beautiful Salmon Arm, BC. After completing his PhD at the University of Victoria (UVic), he began medical school at the University of British Columbia (UBC). During his tenure at UBC, his love for Ophthalmology began, and he subsequently completed his 5-year Ophthalmology Residency training here in Calgary. After graduation, he obtained an International Uveitis & Ocular Inflammatory Disease Fellowship at the prestigious Francis I Proctor Foundation at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). He currently practices General Ophthalmology with an Interest in Uveitis and Ocular Inflammatory Diseases.
Dr. Poulis has a long history of research and has been published in many peer-reviewed journals. His research has been presented at local, national, and international conferences. Throughout his Ophthalmology Residency here in Calgary, Dr. Poulis was quite involved in teaching various aspects of Ophthalmology to medical students, residents from other disciplines, and to Family Physicians.
Dr. Poulis belongs to many professional medical associations including the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta, Alberta Medical Association, Canadian Ophthalmological Society, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, Canadian Medical Association, and the Eye Physicians and Surgeons Association of Alberta.
In Dr. Poulis’ free time, he enjoys playing competitive soccer (LWO for Life) and making the most of living in Western Canada through camping, hiking, and lake life. He has a keen interest in forestry health as he was both a BC Heli-Attack Firefighter and BC Heli-Logger in his previous life. While in Victoria, Dr. Poulis was in the Graduated Free-Fall (GFF) Program at Victoria Skydiving; however, he is currently and forever retired from jumping out of perfectly good airplanes.

Where to Park?
We offer plenty of free 3-hour parking right outside our clinic, and we are easily accessible from Lion’s Park Station located on 14th Ave. NW.
We offer a variety of refractive surgery options including ICL, Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE), LASIK, and PRK. During ICL and Refractive Lens Exchange an intraocular lens is used to correct your vision. LASIK and PRK use a laser to correct your prescription. We can help you achieve clear vision without the need for glasses or contact lenses.
Cataracts are a common condition that often develops with age. Diabetes, certain medications, and trauma can also increase cataract risk. We offer a variety of advanced cataract surgery and intraocular lens options.
We are a comprehensive ophthalmology office treating all types of eye conditions such as glaucoma, eyelid, eye surface, IOL, uveitis, retina problems and more. Our Ophthalmologists offer on-site laser and minor surgery to treat eye diseases.
Your cornea, the clear front part of your eye, refracts light entering your eye. When your cornea develops an issue, it can affect your whole vision. We offer a variety of treatments, including cornea transplants, corneal cross-linking, and PTK surgery.
